Best supplements for dementia: Cannabis CBD oil may reduce Alzheimer’s disease risk

Cannabidiol oil is a natural supplement, sourced from cannabis plants.

Despite the name, it’s not addictive, and could be used to treat a number of medical conditions, research has revealed.

Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, depression, arthritis and cardiovascular disease patients could all benefit from taking cannabidiol oil supplements, according to studies.

The oil could also be used as an “effective treatment” for epilepsy, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

“The clinical use of cannabidiol oil is most advanced in the treatment of epilepsy,” the WHO reported in its Expert Committee on Drug Dependence, last month.

“In clinical trials, cannabidiol oil has been demonstrated as an effective treatment for at least some forms of epilepsy.

“There is also evidence that cannabidiol oil may be a useful treatment for a number of other medical conditions.

“However, this research is considerably less advanced than for treatment of epilepsy.”

Alzheimer’s patients could benefit from the supplement’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, scientists have claimed.

The anti-inflammatory properties would also benefit rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular disease patients, they added.

Cannabidiol oil has anti-proliferative properties too, which means it could help to prevent cancer spreading in some people.

The oil’s health benefits aren’t a surprise, according to Love Hemp, which sells a range of cannabis oil extract products.

“The cannabis oil market has exploded in the last 12 months,” said Love Hemp’s Tony Calamita. We are seeing an increasing demand for our products.

“We welcome the WHO report, and are not surprised by its findings.”

Several countries have changed their national controls to accommodate cannabidiol oil as a medicinal product, the WHO said.

In 2016, the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said cannabidiol oil could be used for medical purposes, with an appropriate license.
