Excessive sweating: Eating THIS 23p food could stop you dripping

Eating sweet potato could help to reduce the symptoms of excessive sweating, according to anti-perspiring clothing company Thompson Tee.

Sweet potato is packed full of essential vitamins, including magnesium, which helps to calm nerves, combat stress and lower blood pressure, it said.

Stress causes an increase in heart rate, and encourages hormone and adrenaline production. This leads to nervous sweating from eccrine glands.

But, magnesium in sweet potato could restrict the release of stress hormones, which in turn, may reduce sweating.

“A good source of magnesium, sweet potatoes can help you to relax and de-stress,” said nutrition website Food Matters.

“It's also necessary for healthy artery, blood, bone, heart, muscle, and nerve function.

“Yet experts estimate that approximately 80 per cent of the population in North America may be deficient in this important mineral.”

The best foods to reduce sweating are those that are easily digestable, it added. That included cauliflower, spinach, watermelon and oats.

People concerned that they sweat too much should see a GP, as it could be a sign of hyperhidrosis - a common condition where a patient sweats excessively.

Patients could have the condition if they avoid physical contact over fears they’re sweating, or if they don’t take part in activities in case they sweat even more, said the NHS.

If you’re spending a “significant amount of time” coping with sweating - for example, constantly showering or changing clothes - you should see a GP, it added.

Between one and three in every 100 people are likely to develop hyperhidrosis in the UK.

Sweet potato are also rich in vitamin B6, which helps to reduce the risk of degenerative diseases, including heart attacks.

They also contain small amounts of vitamin D, which helps to support bone structure.

Their orange-coloured skin is a sign of its high antioxidant levels. Research has claimed carotenoids, the type of antioxidant in sweet potatoes, could lower the risk of developing lung cancer.
